‘Washington Red Wolves’ Is Becoming Popular as Potential New Name for Redskins

Recently, there have been widespread protests against racial inequality and police reform in response to the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor at the hands of the police.

In the realm of sports, significant changes are taking place and are expected to continue in the coming months.

The Washington Redskins have been facing mounting pressure to change their team name for a while. Now, they are left with no choice but to do so following pressure from major corporations like FedEx, Pepsi, and Nike. This pressure intensified after receiving three letters from 87 investment firms and shareholders with a combined worth of $620 billion, urging the Redskins to change their name or risk losing business relationships.

According to Sam Fortier of the Washington Post, the name “Redwolves” is gaining momentum, with players like defensive lineman Jonathan Allen and NFL free agent Will Compton expressing their support for the name.

Fortier tweeted, “Redwolves gaining serious traction in Washington. DL Jonathan Allen hyped the name on Twitch, Compton did below and the fan petition supporting it just passed 3,500 signatures. Redwolves are an endangered species native to the Southeastern U.S., as well as a past support squad for Navy SEALs.”

Compton also expressed his enthusiasm for the name by saying, “I’d want to come back to Washington for one day and retire a Red Wolf. GOD what a name! Shoutout the Washington fans pushing for this to happen.”

A fan initially created the concept of “Redwolves” and produced additional mock-ups as well.
