In response to the global pandemic, the NFL has decided to relocate all five games that were initially planned to be held in stadiums overseas, such as in the UK and Mexico, back to the United States.
While all five regular-season games will still take place, they will now be played in the stadiums of the respective host teams. The Jacksonville Jaguars had organized to play two ‘home games’ at Wembley Stadium in London. Additionally, two games were supposed to be hosted by the Atlanta Falcons and the Miami Dolphins at Tottenham’s new stadium.
On the other side of the Atlantic, the Arizona Cardinals were set to play as the home team at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium. The NFL has been hosting regular-season events in London annually since 2007, with the Jaguars hosting one game there every season since 2013. Mexico City has also hosted three games in 2016, 2017, and 2019.
The NFL’s decision may impact the Jaguars’ plans to expand their franchise internationally, particularly in the UK. Earlier this year, the team was looking to extend their contract to include two consecutive games each year at Wembley.
The full season schedule is expected to be released later this week by the NFL. Discussions are ongoing regarding safeguarding measures in light of the virus.
