Bill Belichick, the head coach of the New England Patriots, stated that he believes in Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer after the 2020 draft. Despite this, the team’s attempt to draft a quarterback did not go as planned.
The Patriots drafted 10 players this year, but none of them were quarterbacks to challenge Stidham and Hoyer for the starting position.
“I have confidence in both of those players,” Belichick informed the press. “We have worked with Brian before and he consistently delivers solid performance. We trust in his abilities.”
Since quarterback Tom Brady departed, the Patriots have refrained from picking a quarterback in their first draft. Belichick clarified that this decision was not intentional. Brady achieved six Super Bowl victories with the team before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March.
“We are assessing all positions, including the quarterback spot,” Belichick explained. “If we identify the right fit, we will draft accordingly.”
Belichick pointed out that the Patriots have selected quarterbacks at various stages in past drafts. “It just didn’t happen in the last three days,” he acknowledged. “It wasn’t planned that way, but the opportunity didn’t arise.”
