The NFL has confirmed that the upcoming 2020 season will proceed as scheduled. The season is set to kick off in September and will feature games in Mexico City and London.
Despite the challenges posed by the global coronavirus pandemic, the NFL has affirmed its commitment to starting the season on time without any delays or reductions in the number of games. The league also does not intend to hold matches in empty stadiums at this time.
In a statement released on Tuesday, NFL executive vice president Jeff Pash emphasized the league’s focus on playing a full season with regular games and playoffs. He acknowledged the uncertainties but expressed confidence in the league’s preparations for the upcoming season.
As the only major American sports league yet to suspend play, the NFL’s season start in September has played a significant role in avoiding interruptions. However, the league has taken precautionary steps such as closing team facilities, canceling the owners meeting, and implementing changes to the upcoming draft, which is scheduled for later this month.
