In a recent development, the New Orleans police have decided to withdraw the warrant issued against Odell Beckham Jr for misdemeanor simple battery. The warrant stemmed from a video circulating on social media that purportedly showed Beckham playfully slapping the buttocks of a security guard.
The incident occurred after a game on Monday night during the celebrations in the locker room following LSU’s championship win at the Superdome, the team Beckham played for in college.
Amid the jubilation, Beckham was captured on video appearing to playfully slap a security guard, which led to the warrant being issued following its circulation on social media on Thursday.
The 27-second video showed the security guard inspecting an area near a bench and referencing a “burn mark” before Beckham, coming from behind, seemed to playfully smack the guard’s behind. However, in a recent email statement, the police revealed that the security officer involved has decided to drop the charge.
Beckham is under scrutiny for allegedly distributing cash to some Tigers players after the game. LSU’s spokesman Michael Bonnette suggested that these could have been “novelty bills,” but investigations are looking into the possibility of it being real money.
