Each year, the carousel of coaching begins once the college football season wraps up. The recent early signing period in December has accelerated this process. Head coaches are at the forefront of this carousel, with some familiar faces and new leaders taking charge of major programs.

Many coaches are focused on rebuilding their programs, while others have been actively recruiting players even before the early signing period. January saw a mix of challenges and successes for coaches finalizing their 2019 recruiting classes, with some already securing commitments from incoming players.

Looking ahead to 2020, coaches are already laying the groundwork at their respective schools. Ryan Day, formerly the offensive coordinator at Ohio State, stepped into the head coach role following Urban Meyer’s retirement on January 1, 2019, after a victorious Rose Bowl Game against Washington.

Day had a 15-day transition period before Meyer’s retirement announcement, allowing him to communicate with committed prospects and ensure they remained on board. At the time of Meyer’s retirement, Ohio State had 15 commitments and was ranked 11th in the nation.
