The return of skiing sensation Lindsey Vonn has been pushed back by a week due to the heavy snowfall in St. Anton, Austria. The downhill and super-G ski races, which were set to take place this weekend, have been called off. Vonn, who had been planning to make her comeback after recovering from a serious knee injury that sidelined her at the beginning of the season, will have to wait a little longer.

Vonn is aiming to clinch five more victories to break the all-time World Cup record of 86 wins held by Swedish ski legend Ingemar Stenmark from the 1980s. The upcoming ski speed races are now scheduled for January 19th and 20th in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, with no word yet on whether the canceled races in St. Anton will be rescheduled.

Vonn sustained a knee injury in a training accident in Colorado on November 19, 2018, where she hyperextended and sprained a ligament in addition to suffering a bone bruise. The heavy snowfall in St. Anton has reached around nine feet, with more snow expected in the coming days, making race preparations difficult despite efforts to clear the course of 120,000 cubic meters of snow.

Vonn, who has undergone multiple surgeries and endured significant physical pain, expressed the challenges of training daily and the toll it takes on her body. She has announced plans to retire later in 2019.
