Guillermo Rigondeaux, the former unified champion in the junior featherweight division, is set to face Giovanni Delgado after more than a year on January 13th. The announcement for this fight was made on Wednesday by the match’s promoters. The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.

This upcoming fight will mark Rigondeaux’s first match since signing with Al Haymon, the advisor and head honcho of Premier Boxing Champions. This move also signifies his transition to a different weight class, having been a prominent figure in the junior division and being featured on ESPN cards in New York.

This match will be a significant moment as it pits two-time Olympic Gold medalists against each other. However, Rigondeaux (17-1, 11 KOs), a 38-year-old Cuban boxer now based in Miami, Florida, faced a tough defeat in his last fight. He almost quit due to a severe hand injury he sustained during the bout.

Delgado, a 27-year-old Mexican fighter, enters the ring with slim odds of victory. He has suffered four consecutive defeats, including three in a row, and is now slated to take on one of the most accomplished boxers of recent years.

Though Edward has won his last six fights, he remains hungry for more success. Despite holding a title in the 112-pound division, he believes the real work is just beginning. Recognizing the challenges of climbing the ranks, he is fully dedicated to his goal of achieving even greater heights in boxing.
