Just before the Allstate Sugar Bowl kicked off on Tuesday night, Bevo XV, the Texas Longhorns’ mascot, showed great enthusiasm. As handlers attempted to arrange a meeting between Bevo and Uga X, the 62-pound English bulldog mascot of Georgia, Bevo charged towards Uga, showcasing his massive 1,600-pound presence before being contained.

This spirited display from Texas’ mascot seemed like a sign of things to come. On the field, the No. 15 Longhorns emulated Bevo’s energy, defeating the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs 28-21 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Texas, at (10-4), made a strong statement right from the start, taking a 17-0 lead with solid defense and the leadership of quarterback Sam Ehlinger. The Longhorns consistently pressured Georgia’s quarterback Jake Fromm and contained running back D’Andre Swift. Capitalizing on the Bulldogs’ mistakes, Ehlinger’s balanced performance in the passing and running game wore down Georgia’s defense.

By securing their first 10-win season in a decade, Texas demonstrated their potential for future success. While they aim to return to national prominence, fans reminisced about the team’s glory days in the 2000s under coach Mack Brown, who led them to nine consecutive double-digit-win seasons, including a national championship. While it remains to be seen if the Longhorns can replicate that level of success, their progress after a decade of ups and downs indicates a promising trajectory.
