Amelie Mauresmo has stepped down as the captain of the French Davis Cup team to take on the role of coaching Lucas Pouille. Initially, there were talks of Mauresmo potentially succeeding Yannick Noah in a different role over the following years, but she has chosen to prioritize Pouille.

In a statement, FTT confirmed that Amelie Mauresmo has accepted the challenge of coaching Pouille and has made the decision to resign from her position as the captain of the Davis Cup team in France to focus on this new venture. The French Tennis Federation, FTF, has backed and endorsed this project in the interest of French tennis.

Pierre Cherrett, the National Technical Director of FFT, supported Pouille’s decision, considering it crucial and logical. He mentioned that he had a successful partnership with Emmanuel Planque in overseeing the progression of Pouille’s development.

Pouille took to Twitter to express his intentions of suggesting a new captain to the tennis committee soon. He also expressed his enthusiasm for commencing his collaboration with Amelie Mauresmo as his coach, believing they will achieve great things together to reach his objectives.

On another note, Jean-Francois Caujolle, the Tournament Director of the Marseille Open, advocated for hosting the tournament biennially, foreseeing potential reduced revenue for the International Federation. Francesco Ricci Bitti has been identified as a key figure in the changes to the Davis Cup, allegedly avoiding dialogue with players for almost two decades.
