The Cleveland Browns on Sunday announced that they have agreed to a contract along with Quarterback Drew Stanton. The terms related to the contract were not revealed but Stanton’s agent Mike McCartney left a tweet on his Twitter profile in which he shared his excitement of his client receiving a two year deal with the Browns.
Stanton, 33, is the second quarterback the team has added in this offseason. He will be joining Tyrod Taylor, whom the Browns acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Bill. Tyrod is expected to start off in this season. The team is also expected to draft a quarterback in April’s NFL draft, possibly with the No. one overall pick. Besides, the Browns also own the No. four pick in first round. The team has also said that even if a quarterback gets selected in the draft, it would prefer him not to play in this season.
Stanton began with 13 games in the five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals while he filled up the place for injured Carson Palmer. If Stanton remains to be healthy then he would figure out a strategy to back up Taylor. Stanton’s addition to the team may not be a good thing for Cody Kessler’s future in Cleveland.
After the 2017 season, receiver Larry Fitzgerald said that Stanton had been playing with a torn ACL. However, Stanton denied this later but did say in the month of February that he is dealing with a bone bruise.
Before he started in Week 2 of the 2014 season, Stanton had 1,365 days regular-season appearances. From the years 2008-2010, he played for the Detroit Lions, appearing in 12 games. In the year 2017, he threw 17 passes with no starts for the Lions who did not win and now he joins the Browns team that was also winless in the year 2017.
