Lara Gut, a 27-year-old skier from Switzerland, recently got married to Valon Behrami. Following their wedding, Lara Gut will now compete in the Ski World Cup under her new name, Lara Gut-Behrami. She has adopted Behrami’s surname, as requested by the skier from Ticino.
Lara Gut revealed her new name during the Ski World Cup offseason. The former Overall World Cup champion of 2016 surprised everyone with the announcement on Instagram. She shared that she and her husband, surrounded by loved ones, are enjoying this special time together and living the dream of being married.
The Swiss Ski Federation also confirmed that Lara Gut will now be known as Lara Gut-Behrami as she starts training for the downhill event in Lake Louise following her marriage to Valon Behrami, a soccer player who recently returned from representing Switzerland at the World Cup.
Earlier this year in March, Lara Gut and Valon Behrami publicly announced their relationship. Soon after, Behrami revealed his separation from Elena Bonzanni, his former partner and mother of their two daughters, Isabel (2 years old) and Sofia (9 years old).
Both Lara Gut and Valon Behrami were raised in Switzerland in an Italian-speaking region. Behrami currently plays for Udinese, and Lara Gut’s skiing accomplishments, including winning five medals in the World Championships, have been acknowledged by the Swiss team and the International Ski Federation’s website.
