This unique car, featuring a four-cylinder model, made its mark at the Grand Prix of Paris in 1955, where it competed against other vehicles in the motorsport arena. The car showcased its prowess by clinching the first position in its class and securing a fifth-place finish overall.
Phillips fondly described his bond with the car, likening it to a family member. He shared, “My mother saw it as a grandchild, and my son views it as a sibling, so it holds a special place in my heart.” Following a meticulous restoration in 2008, the car was lauded as the finest Ferrari at the Pebble Beach auction.
David Gooding, the founder of Gooding and Company, emphasized the company’s strict evaluation process for showcasing cars. This scrutiny ensures that each vehicle undergoes a thorough assessment, guaranteeing that its next owner will uphold the same level of care and responsibility.
When asked about the future care of the car, Phillips emphasized that the Ferrari 500 Mondial should not be relegated to a static display in a museum but rather should find a new owner who will actively drive and appreciate its performance capabilities.
