The Houston Texans have successfully won three games to have themselves back in the game to .500. However, the time has not been so easy for quarterback Deshaun Watson whose rookie season got over with an ACL tear.
The offensive line has been struggling to protect Watson, who played in the Sunday night’s 20-13 win over the team Buffalo Bills despite injured ribs which he suffered two weeks ago during a game against the Giants. The Texans rendered seven sacks and 12 quarterback hits. Watson has been hit hard 66 times up till now and has sacked 25 times in this season.
The young quarterback was 15-of-25 for 177 yards along with a touchdown as well as two interceptions. He has also fumbled the ball thrice and lost once. Watson now has a total of 8 career interceptions, as per ESPN Stats & Information. Only DeShone Kizer and Derek Carr have more such interceptions since the year 2017.
Although Watson has achieved all of this, his coaches, as well as teammates, said that he had fought very hard to play.
Watson did not want the injuries he endured to be a blaming factor on his poor play. He and the offense have struggled, as they made a record of just 13 points, of which ten came after takeaways.
It is for the very first time that the second-year quarterback has thrown for less than 300 yards since the Week 1 loss of the Texans. Wide receiver Will Fuller V said that he thought Watson was normal and ‘calm’ saying he did not even notice that anything was wrong with him. Additionally, O’Brien said that Watson’s injury didn’t have an effect on the playcalling at all and called the quarterback a fighter.
However, Watson is now focusing a lot on getting fully recovered before the team plays against the Jaguars in the Week 7.
