The Detroit Tigers made the announcement related to the Mike Fiers trade on Wednesday. The team has acquired right-handed Logan Share from the Athletics to complete the trade. Shore joins fellow Nolan left-handed Nolan Blackwood as the players the Detroit acquired in exchange for Fiers. Shore’s season was divided between the Stockton ports as well as the Midland RockHounds, the High-A and Double-A affiliates of the Oakland. However, his season was shortened due to injury on both the ends. He began late, all thanks to the lat strain which kept him away from the extended spring training. He later was placed in the disabled list late in the season due to another injury which shut him down early.
The anchor of the arsenal of Shore is a change which consistently grades out as a plus. FanGraphs makes it as the high water mark in that division, by projecting the pitch out to a double-plus offering that is above average. Shore knows well what he does with the ball, with a chance at the plus command. The remaining package is unexciting, however. The fastball is not something which is remarkable and reaches 93 miles each hour. Shore’s breaking ball is even more suspect. It is placed as a below average offering which serves as more than a change of pace.
Shore was initially expected to ride the fast track to the big leagues. He dominated while he played with the Stockton to open the year and put up an incredible strikeout and walk rates to match a 1.21 ERA via four starts. Things became a little bumpy when he faced off competition and lost at the next level. Double-A offenses helped him get back a 5.50 ERA and 4.27 FIP while Shore posted the worst strikeout rate in his young career. However, it will not be fair to judge him so harshly.
