The San Francisco Giants have decided to remove Bobby Evans as the general manager which is a move that is not surprising for anyone at the end of a second straight losing season.
It is now being expected that the organization would ask Evans to stay within the organization. However, it is not clear if he would stay or look for employment at some other place. Just like executive vice president Brian Sabean as well as manager Bruce Bochy, Evans is signed with the Giants through 2019.
It is being expected that Sabean and Bochy will be keeping their jobs.
The Giants are looking out of the organization for a new general manager, as per sources. If Evans decides to stay, then his role may be determined by the organization’s that hire.
The Giants have made many major roster moves throughout Evans; tenure which has not largely panned out. This includes the combined contracts worth $220 million which were given to the starters Johnny Cueto as well as Jeff Samardzija and also the four year deal worth $6 million for closer Mark Melancon. All of these players have missed the majority of their time due to injuries.
Evans has also traded third baseman Matt Duffy as well as prospect Lucius Fox to the Rays for pitcher Matt Moore, which is a contract that helped the team reach 2016 playoffs, however, finished Moore’s trade in the previous year.
Towards the end of the previous year’s 64-98 season, Larry Baer, Giants President directed the ex-general manager Sabean to take a more active role in developing the roster for this year.
Evans, who accomplished popularity and fame through the ranks after beginning as an administrative assistant with the Giants in the year 1994, was later on promoted to the general manager post from the assistant general manager as the 2015 season started. He had remained an assistant general manager for nine seasons.
