The Denver Broncos have enlisted the expertise of DeMarcus Ware to serve as a pass-rush consultant. Initially, Ware will be working part-time, dedicating specific days to the role. He has been involved in various activities for the Broncos during the offseason.
Ware previously played for the Broncos for three seasons during his 12-year career, which notably included winning Super Bowl 50. Following back issues, Ware retired from professional football in 2016.
Broncos coach Vance Joseph acknowledged Ware’s appointment as the team’s pass-rush consultant, emphasizing his valuable experience and knowledge. Joseph praised Ware for his understanding of pass-rushing techniques, benefiting not only the outside players but also the interior defense like Derek Wolfe and others.
Joseph implemented significant changes to his coaching staff this offseason after releasing seven assistants. Subsequently, he revealed plans to bring on a pass-rush coach to support Bill Kollar, the defensive line coach, and Reggie Herring, the linebackers coach.
Reflecting on his career, Ware concluded with 138.5 sacks, ranking him eighth all-time in this category. He narrowly trails Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, who amassed 139.5 sacks. Ware consistently achieved double-digit sack figures across multiple seasons, including a career-best of 20 sacks in 2008.
During his playing days, Ware was renowned for his exceptional pass-rushing skills and technique. Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller publicly praised Ware’s mentorship, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to Miller’s development.
Broncos defensive end Shelby Harris also lauded Ware for his insights, expressing appreciation for the knowledge and experience Ware brings to the team.
