Phoenix Suns probably require a point guard with the 16th pick this summer

The Phoenix Suns at present have a difficult decision on what they should do with the first overall pick they won at the NBA Draft Lottery this week. There are prospective players such as Luka Doncic and Deandre Ayton, but the first pick in the NBA draft is not the only one they own.

If the Suns general manager, Ryan McDonough sticks to the popular choice and goes ahead on selecting Ayton as the first overall pick then the team will need to select a strong point guard with the second first-round pick. The Suns’ requiring a good point guard is more than evident.

Another aspect which has to be considered in the draft is that most of the big players in the draft are lottery selections. As per NBADraft.et, the mock draft has only Jontay Porter, Omari Spellman and Mitchell Robinson as the big players available in the first round selection after the 16th pick. All of these will require a lot of time to be a starter if they ever successfully do become the starters.

If the Suns think of Doncic as a prospect in the first overall pick, then the team would have to move up in the draft by trading away the 16th pick to get a starting level high in the NBA draft. While this is certainly an option, the Suns would consider, but the question that arises is that why would the team give up its players or picks if it is not necessary.

Doncic will probably be a good option but Ayton is a ‘can’t-miss prospect’ and selecting him would mean that the Suns will easily set up in the right way by getting the option of a starting caliber point guard with the 16th pick.
