The Golden Knights beat the San Jose Sharks with 3-0 in Game 6 on Sunday night, marking their second-round series win and earning a trip to the Western Conference Final. The Knights even got a break on Sunday when Nate Schmidt got awarded with a goal which was originally missed by on-ice officials and was caught on replay.
The Golden Knights have played well enough despite being thrown in together at the expansion draft last year in June among other players. The team won eight out of none games last year season, taking the league by a little shock, and posted 109 points to win a Pacific Division filled with playoff-tested teams. Later, the Golden Knights went 8-2 in the playoffs, having a first round-sweep against Los Angeles and a six-game series victory over the Jose Sharks.
The Golden Knights just became the third team in the league history to have won multiple series in its first season. In the year 1918, it was the Toronto Arenas who won the Stanley Cup in the first postseason in the NHL history while in the year 1968, St. Louis won two rounds to win the all-expansion West Division.
Vegas will now be facing Winnipeg Jets or Nashville Predators at the Western Conference Final, where the Jets have a leading score of 3-2 heading straight into the Game 6 on Monday night at home. Even though the Golden Knights got a little help from the a few shots that hit the iron and went out for San Jose and the other one which went off the post into the net for a goal that was made by Schmidt, the main reason for their success has been the tenacity, speed, and depth more than mere luck.
