Utah Jazz assistant Igor Kokoskov as the new head coach of Phoenix Suns

On Wednesday, the Phoenix Suns ended the search of finding their coach as the team announced that they have roped in Igor Kokoskov, the Utah Jazz assistant as the franchise’s 19th head coach. Both of the sides reached an agreement with a three-year deal, the sources from the league said.

The Suns said the Kokoskov would be the first head coach of the team born as well as raised outside of North America in the league’s history. He will assume his head coach duties after the season of the Utah Jazz gets over.

Ryan McDonough, the Suns general manager, had a meeting with Kokoskov in Houston, just before Game 1 on Sunday, and decided quickly to offer him the position, the league sources said. The team, who finished the league with the worst score of 21-61, is now working to get back on track and begin crafting a roster, Devin Booker.

Kokoskov was born in Serbia and started working as an assistant coach to Utah Jazz in the year 2015. He has been in the NBA league since the year 2000 and has served as the assistant coach to some NBA franchises which includes the Suns (2008-13).

Additionally, Kokoskov is also considered as the finest coach, who has accomplished a lot of success in the international game. Kokoskov is the reason behind Slovenia achieving the Eurobasket 2017 title.

If everything falls into the right space, then the Suns may get the chance to draft the young Luka Doncic at the lottery. There are plenty of other things that also have to fall in the space for that to happen. But if actually everything happens as planned by the Suns then having Kokoskov as the team’s head coach will surely help to make it easy to draft Doncic.
