Patriots pick two players for Tom Brady in the NFL draft

The New England Patriots picked up two players who should be able to help their veteran quarterback Tom Brady in his career instead of drafting Brady’s successor with one of their first-round picks on Thursday night. The two players drafted by the Patriots are from the University of Georgia, one of offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn at the No. 23 pick and the other is running back Sony Michael at No. 31 pick.

The two of them could help to fill in significant roles on the offensive roster. The Patriots have lost its left tackle Nate Solder to the New York Giants in the free agency while their running back Dion Lewis signed a deal with the Tennessee Titans.

The Patriots’ director of player personnel, Nick Caserio said that these two latest selections do not have to necessarily be confused with the Patriots’ drafting for the need in the first round. Caserio said, “You draft good football players. We need good players, wherever they come from, whatever positions they play.”

The Patriots had the draft pick capital to potentially move up during the Thursday’s first round as they were the owners of a pair of picks in Friday’s second round. With Brady turning 41 years old in August, it was fair to wonder if New England could be in the market for a first-round quarterback. This speculation only increased in Arlington this week when Lamar Jackson, the former Louisville quarterback said that he had met the Patriots and the head coach Bill Belichick several times which includes a workout in the campus and a visit to the Gillette Stadium.

Jackson was bypassed twice by the New England however before he landed with the Baltimore Ravens as the No. 32 overall selection. Now, drafting Brady’s potential successor will have to wait for at least another day.
