Seahawks postpone trip after Kaepernick declined to say if he would stop kneeling during national anthem

The Seattle Seahawks team officials postponed the trip after quarterback Colin Kaepernick declined to say that he would stop kneeling during the national anthem in the next season, a league source told on Thursday.

The source said that Seattle is still considering bringing in Kaepernick for a tryout and no decisions are final as yet. As per a league source, on Friday the Seahawks signed former Redskins quarterback Stephen Morris.

About two weeks ago, the Seahawks had contacted Kaepernick to arrange for a visit to the team’s headquarters but after arrangements were made and the final decisions for the travel were planned, the trip was postponed unexpectedly due to Seahawk’s last-minute stipulation regarding Kaepernick’s national anthem stance, a source said. The source further said that the team wanted to know whether Kaepernick would not kneel this season and if he was unwilling to give that assurance to them.

The day after Kaepernick’s scheduled workout with the Seahawks, Kaepernick sat for his deposition which was administered by the NFL attorney’s in New York regarding NFL’s alleged attempts to conspire to keep him out of the league.

This comes in at a point where the Cincinnati Bengals visited Eric Reid, the San Francisco 49ers who knelt along with Kaepernick during the national anthem and wanted assurances from Reid that he would not do such a thing again.

No NFL team has worked with Kaepernick who had once helped lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl since he became a free agent after the 2016 season. The Seahawks visited him a year ago and had considered it again in this week. It was the Baltimore Ravens who had entertained the idea of bringing in Kaepernick last summer.

The Seahawks are still working towards getting their backup quarterback situation solved and had not yet decided whom they would get into work behind Russel Wilson. Kaepernick is said to be one of the options. However, other quarterbacks will also be considered.
