The arrest of ex-Raider Aldon Smith last Friday was somewhat surprising, but most people seemed to believe that it just went along with the recent off-field issues and problems he had to deal with.
Apparently, that was not the exact case. While Smith did violate his probation, the device measured a blood alcohol level at 0.40 when he showed up at the San Francisco Sheriff’s department for ankle monitoring on Friday. He was then arrested.
As per Sernoffsky and the San Francisco Chronicle, Smith will remain in custody until Friday and will be likely moved to an in-custody residential rehab facility. A BAC of 0.40 is an unbelievably high and a dangerous blood alcohol level. According to experts, a blood alcohol level of 0.40 or higher results in the onset of coma and possibility of death due to the beginning of respiratory failure.
This is incredibly scary to think about, considering the legal limit in California is 0.08% if operation a passenger vehicle. This is the third time Smith has been arrested in the last two months, while also being released from the Raiders along the way.
In fact, the judge in Smith’s domestic violence case had ordered him to remain completely sober while wearing the device but officials say he went way over the edge. The former San Francisco 49er player and member of the Raiders was to begin an exceptional start to this career, 33.5 sacks, tallying 103 combined tackles and five forced fumbles over his first two NFL seasons. Smith was the No. 7 overall pick in NFL Draft of 2011 out of Missouri.
Smith has not played in any game in the NFL since the year 2015 after the league suspended him following a third DUI arrest. Moreover, he was being investigated for the domestic violence last year.
