The baseball player, Gavin Bell from Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colo was searching for a particular pace where he could play in the college and got stumbled upon an NAIA school situated in Fort Worth, Texas Wesleyan. He, at first thought, that it was a good choice and would be the best apparently and so he sent an inquiry to the administration of the school about the possibility of playing for Rams.
But, the coach of Texas Wesleyan, Mike Jeff coat considered Bell not to be a good player because he belongs to the place Colorado where Marijuana has been legally made available since 2014. He sent an email to Bell about the refusal which went viral later on.
The letter said, “Thanks for the interest in our program. Unfortunately, we are not recruiting players from the state of Colorado. In the past, the players have had trouble passing our drug test. We have made a decision to not take a chance on student-athletes from your state. You can thank your liberal politicians. Best of luck wherever you decide to play.”
This statement went viral on Wednesday where Texas Wesleyan confirmed that Jeff coat has sent the email and it clarified that it does not adhere to any of the anti-discrimination policies of the school.
Later school administrative later stated, “we are aware of the email sent by our baseball coach, and the comments he made are in no way a reflection of Texas Wesleyan University, its values or its recruiting practices.”
The statement further continues, “This is a personal matter and it is currently under investigation. It is our university policy not to discuss personal matters, but we want to reiterate that this email does not reflect our values and we do not condone discrimination.
They also added, “this includes discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, origin, age, gender, and disability, etc. of one’s regional state”. Jeff coat has been the coach at Wesleyan University since 2002 and under his leadership, 10 MLB seasons have been done.
