Three pairs participated in the ice dance in this winter Olympics for the U.S. but at the end, the Shibutanis managed to corner a medal. Now the Team USA moved back in top five in the race of earning the medal in the Olympics. As per the report, Maia and Alex Shibutani won two bronze medals in the ice dance and freestyle skier’s Brita Sigourney run in the halfpipe.
The duo scored 77.74 points after the short dance and they were in fourth place. But, later in the free dance, they managed to score 114.86 points. Their combined score of 187.69 helped them to keep hold the third position in the competition. Canada’s Virtue Tessa and Scott Moir scored 206.07 and won the gold medal.
On the other hand, due to fall Madison Chock and Evan Bates missed their chance to win a medal in the free dance. Reacting on this Chock stated “I knew it was over. I knew there was no shot. After working so hard all this season, and going through so much and trying to stay healthy and then just losing it at a crucial moment, it was really, really heartbreaking.”
Bates commented that the incident happened suddenly and very quickly. They were skating fluidly but in the next second, they were scrambling to control their balance. Bates further stated, “Those things can happen.”
Talking about others, Madison Hubbell and Zachery Donohue of Team USA scored 187.69 and finished fourth. On the other hand, Chock and Bates finished ninth with a total score of 175.58, which includes 75.45 points from short dance and 100.13 points from free dance.
Sigourney, in the women’s halfpipe, scored 91.60 and won a bronze medal. Canada’s Cassie Sharpe cornered a gold medal with 95.80 points.
