Minnesota Vikings hired John DeFilippo as Offensive Coordinator

John DeFilippo has been hired by the Minnesota Vikings and he has been designated as the team’s new offensive coordinator. It is confirmed that DeFilippo will not return to Philadelphia for the 2018 season.

As per the report his contract was set to end 10 days after the Eagles’ season. DeFilippo’s contract actually got expired on Wednesday, However, the Eagles had granted him permission to talk with the Vikings.  That time Minnesota didn’t waste any time in securing its new offensive coordinator.

On Jan 26, the former offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur was introduced as the head coach of the New York Giants. That day Mike Zimmer started conducting interviews to select a suitable replacement for Shurmur in Northern Kentucky. After the NFC Championship match in which the Eagles defeated the Vikings, the Giants hired Shurmur.

Before hiring DeFilippo, the Vikings interviewed four candidates, they were Kevin Stefanski, quarterbacks coach of the Vikings, Sean Ryan, quarterback coach of Texans, Dan Campbell, Saints assistant coach and Darrell Bevell, former Seahawks offensive coordinator.

Talking about past experience DeFilippo worked as the quarterbacks in Philadelphia for two seasons and helped to Carson Wentz develop into an MVP candidate. He has been worked with Nick Foles, backup QB. Nick Foles helped the Eagles to win the last Sunday match. That was the first Super Bowl win of the Eagles and after the team received the MVP honors.

Nick said “Coach Flip, he’s a grinder.  Barely sleeps. Fundamentals, giving us the game plan, giving us all our checks, extremely detailed. I’m grateful for him. He’s done an amazing job this year.”

In 2015, he had worked as offensive coordinator for the Cleveland. As the team has got its offensive coordinator, the team will now focus more to select their quarterback for 2018 season. Informing about this Rick Spielman, General manager of the team stated that the OC will play a major role in the selection of the quarterback.
