Mark Appel retires from baseball

Top pic of the pick of the 2013 draft, Mark Appel has taken retirement from baseball without ever throwing a pitch in the major leagues.

He is known as the hard-throwing pitcher from Stanford hired by the Huston Astros in the 2013 draft with no.1 pick. That was the Major League Baseball draft. He recently announced his intention to leave the game. In November he left Philadelphia before the winter meeting draft. Appel informed that he is happy with his decision.

Appel stated “If you want to call me the biggest draft bust, you can call it that. If I never get to the big leagues, will it be a disappointment? Yes and no. That was a goal and a dream I had at one point, but that’s with stipulations that I’m healthy, I’m happy and doing something I love.” If one is living in an isolated place, hurt and unhappy then there is no great thing to go for big leagues. It will not worth that much, he further stated.

Apple grew up an Astros fan in West Houston, and became a shining star at Stanford and got a $6.35 million of signing amount from Houston. He would become the third No. 1 overall pick not to make the major leagues.  Other players who have not played any major leagues right-hander Steve Chilcott, chosen by the New York Mets in 1966, and left-hander Brien Taylor, picked by the New York Yankees in 1991. The reason behind why they didn’t make the major leagues Chilcott sustained a separated pitching shoulder in 1967 during playing a minor league. Taylor tore the labrum and capsule his left shoulder in 1993 during a bar fight. Appel went 24-18 with a 5.06 ERA over five seasons with the Astros and Philadelphia Phillies.
