FIFA Reduces one year ban Of Guerrero; now can play in 2018 World Cup

The Flamengo striker and that captain of Peru Paolo Guerrero have finally got relief from his ban of six months. As per the report, FIFA has recently reduced the suspension for doping from one year. By reducing the suspension time, FIFA has reduced it to six months. Now Paolo Guerrero can join his team and can also play with the team in 2018 World Cup. After taking into account, all circumstances of the case FIFA’s appeal committee has taken this decision. During the hearing of the case, Guerrero lawyers stated that he was unaware of that and he drank the coca leaves contaminated tea before the match. It may be noted that that time, the striker was playing World Cup qualifier match and the opponent team was Argentina. The match was played on 5th October.

After that, since 3rd November, he has been suspended from the team. It was a very bad moment for him as after the ban he missed the playoff victory against New Zealand. After the victory against New Zealand, the team was able to secure a place for Peru in the World Cup. Well, it was for the first time since 1982 that Peru made it for the World Cup.

Bichara Neto, the lawyer of Guerrero, stated that Guerrero would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports to cancel the six-month suspension of Guerrero.

Neto said “The World Cup is assured. Now we will go to CAS for no suspension,” Neto told Brazilian media. “We hope that they hear our case by the end of January. CAS already has cases like this, such as that of tennis player Richard Gasquet. That’s why we will aim for complete annulment.”

In 2009, Gasquet tested positive after he had gone under a test for cocaine. But his lawyer informed that he had not taken that directly and argued that he had kissed a girl in a Miami nightclub and that the reason behind that.

It may be noted that Guerrero was Peru’s top scorer in World Cup qualifying with six goals.
