Early Friday morning, the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion was taken into custody in South Florida. According to FOX Sports 640’s Andy Slater, Davis stands accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, allegedly striking her in the back of the head and slapping her.
Davis was apprehended in Miami Beach following the activation of a license plate reader that alerted police, Slater reported.
The accusations stem from an incident that reportedly occurred several weeks prior, with Davis being wanted by authorities since then. It is stated that the event took place on June 15.

Charged with battery-domestic violence, Davis was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami at approximately 3:35 a.m. ET.
He had been in a romantic relationship with the alleged victim for around four years, and together they have two children.
Understanding the Allegations Against Gervonta Davis
Gervonta Davis’s arrest comes nearly a month after the alleged assault on his ex-girlfriend coincided with Father’s Day.
As outlined in an arrest report, the 30-year-old arrived at the victim’s residence to collect their children for the day. However, a verbal disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation.
The report states that Davis demanded the victim remove their children from his vehicle after changing his mind about taking them. As she leaned into the car to get the children, he reportedly struck her in the back of the head and slapped her face.
These alleged actions resulted in a minor injury to her lip.
The victim reached out to her mother via text, indicating that Davis was assaulting her and asking for help. When her mother arrived, she found her daughter visibly upset and crying while in an argument with Davis.
During the encounter, the mother recorded a portion of the confrontation, which included footage of Davis throwing a small box at the victim.
As of Friday morning, Davis remains detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. His bond status is currently listed as “to be set.”
