On Monday Night Football, the Detroit Lions triumphed over the Seattle Seahawks with a final score of 42-29. Quarterback Jared Goff delivered a flawless performance, setting an NFL record by completing all of his passes—18 completions on 18 attempts for 296 yards and two touchdowns.

Not everyone seemed to agree that Goff warranted the Player of the Game title, as head coach Dan Campbell admitted he did not award Goff the game ball.

“I just gave the game ball to somebody else,” Campbell stated after the game. “So, I feel awful right now… I knew he [Goff] played exceptionally well—I just didn’t realize he was perfect. I had no idea he was literally 18 for 18.”

The game balls were awarded to two other Lions players: safety Kerby Joseph, who recorded an interception, and wide receiver Jameson Williams, who made two receptions for 80 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown.

Despite the solid performances from Joseph and Williams, Campbell recognized that a quarterback achieving a 100% completion rate is such an extraordinary feat that he acknowledged his error in not awarding Goff the game ball.

Previously, the record for perfect completions in a game was held by Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals, who went 10-for-10 against Houston in a 30-19 loss back in 2005.

“It’s a cool thing,” Goff remarked about setting the NFL record. “I’m just glad we secured the win.”

Adding to his accolades, Goff also caught his first career touchdown pass from wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on a trick play in the third quarter.

After four games this season, Goff has amassed 1,015 yards with a 71% completion rate, accounting for five touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Lions now hold a 3-1 record and are set to continue their momentum following their Bye Week, with their next matchup scheduled for October 13 at 4:25 PM ET against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
