Debates may arise over who the top running back in the NFL is, yet Christian McCaffrey’s compensation didn’t reflect that status, until now. Based on information from Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk, McCaffrey’s earnings are set to match his talent.
The partnership between McCaffrey and the San Francisco 49ers now includes a two-year contract extension, reportedly valued around $38 million, as disclosed by Florio.
“Approaching his 28th birthday this Friday, McCaffrey previously inked a four-year $64 million deal after his third season with the Carolina Panthers,” according to Florio’s account. “His mid-2022 season shift to the 49ers came without any alterations to that contract.”
This circumstance has just been updated.
McCaffrey will now remain a 49er until at least the end of the 2027 season.
“Following a pinnacle season boasting 2,023 all-purpose yards and an impressive 21 touchdowns total, the 49ers took a leap to acquire McCaffrey from the Panthers at the most recent trade deadline. This move involved a trade package of 2023 second-, third-, and fourth-round draft picks, along with a 2024 fifth-round pick, as outlined by Nick Wagoner from ESPN.
However, challenges persist for the defending NFC champions.
“On another note, 49ers’ wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who is also anticipating his own extension, hadn’t reported to minicamp as of Tuesday morning,” reported Wagoner. “He stands to face more than $104,000 in fines should he not appear within the three-day time frame.”
In contrast, McCaffrey showed up at minicamp fully participating and arguably happier with his new earnings.
“McCaffrey, alongside (defensive end Nick) Bosa, has been recognized by both his peers and coaching staff for exemplary commitment and diligence,” reported Jerry McDonald from the San Jose Mercury News. “Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has expressed no concerns over McCaffrey’s attendance at voluntary sessions, and he echoed a familiar sentiment regarding Bosa’s non-participation at last year’s minicamp.”
