Deontay Wilder, a former WBC heavyweight world champion, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) after being stopped for a traffic violation.
The reason for the stop was due to Wilder’s vehicle having illegally tinted windows and obscured license plates. During the course of the traffic stop, police officers detected the smell of marijuana and proceeded to search the car, where they reported finding both marijuana and a handgun.
Despite the incident, the 37-year-old boxer was said to have been friendly and cooperative throughout the arrest process. He was ultimately charged with possession of a concealed weapon.
Wilder has an impressive professional record of 43-2-1 and held the WBC heavyweight title for five years, defending it ten times. Rumors suggest that he may face off against Anthony Joshua in the Middle East at the end of the year.
