**England Soccer Player Jaylene Daniels Released by North Carolina Courage**

The North Carolina Courage has chosen not to bring back defender Jaelene Daniels for the 2023 season, opting not to extend her contract on Monday.

In a statement regarding Daniels’ departure, the club expressed their well wishes for her future endeavors.

After a short retirement period, Daniels joined the Courage during the offseason. The team issued an apology back in December for her controversial signing.

“We apologize to all those we have offended, especially members of the LGBTQIA+ community,” the club conveyed to its fans.

Daniels attracted attention due to her past refusal to play for the U.S. national team during Pride Month when they sported rainbow-colored numbers, citing her religious beliefs.

She made a similar choice on the Courage’s Pride Night this year.

Despite the contentious circumstances surrounding her signing, Daniels played an active role for the Courage, participating in 19 out of 22 regular-season games and starting in eight of them.
