A previous Husker football player tragically passed away on Sunday night following a car accident on an Indiana toll road.

Reports suggest that a white 2017 Ford SUV struck a deer while traveling west, then veered across the median and collided with a black 2017 Ford pickup truck heading in the opposite direction.

31-year-old Mark Pelini, who played for Nebraska between 2010 and 2014, was one of the victims in the crash, which claimed the lives of three people. He is the nephew of former Husker football coach Bo Pelini.

Former teammates took to social media to share fond memories and pay tribute to the offensive lineman.

Mark Pelini began his career as a walk-on under his uncle and eventually became the starting center for the Huskers. He participated in 13 games during his time at Nebraska, with 11 of them being in the 2014 season.

Throughout his university years, Pelini received various academic honors and was recognized as a member of the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team in 2014.
