The sports memorabilia market has experienced significant growth in recent years, consistently setting new records. Sotheby’s Auction recently announced the sale of a game-worn Michael Jordan jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals for over $10 million, marking a new milestone.
Surpassing Diego Maradona’s 1986 World Cup jersey that sold for $9.28 million in May, Jordan’s jersey now holds the title for the most expensive game-worn memorabilia ever sold and the priciest Michael Jordan item auctioned.
Jordan donned this jersey during Game one of the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. Despite losing that game in overtime, the Bulls clinched the series in six games for their sixth 90’s Championship, with Jordan winning the Finals MVP award for all six titles.
Given the skyrocketing prices in sports memorabilia, it’s only a matter of time before this newly set record is surpassed.
