1st Quarter: Jessica Korda had a challenging start to the British Open at Muirfield when her luggage was lost, forcing her to borrow clothing for the round. Despite this setback, she managed to shoot a -5 66, trailing leader Hinako Shibuno by just one shot after the first round of play.

2nd Quarter: Jonathan Huberdeau has inked an eight-year contract extension worth up to $84 million with the Calgary Flames. After a successful season with the Florida Panthers, where he scored 30 goals and led the league with 85 assists, Huberdeau was traded to the Flames, where he will remain for the foreseeable future.

3rd Quarter: The NFL kicked off its preseason with the Hall of Fame Game, seeing the Las Vegas Raiders defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-11. While it’s just a preseason game, it marks the start of the football season and a hint of what’s to come. The Jaguars struggled in their opener, scoring only one late touchdown.

4th Quarter: On this day in sports history, Bud Selig issued a 211-game suspension to Alex Rodriguez for PED use. The suspension was later reduced to 162 games but set a significant precedent. In 1999, Mark McGwire hit his 500th home run, becoming the fastest player to reach that milestone at the time.
