The clock is ticking towards the Major League Baseball trade deadline, and teams are actively engaging in player transactions.

Once Juan Soto turned down a massive $440 million contract extension offer, the Washington Nationals began fielding offers for him. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals are leading the pack in the pursuit of Soto.

Rosenthal highlighted, “The perceived frontrunners are the Padres and the Cardinals. The Padres, known for their aggressive tactics under general manager A.J. Preller, possess promising prospects and a strong lineup with players like [Fernando] Tatis, [Manny] Machado, and a formidable rotation.”

However, Jon Heyman later suggested that the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres are likely stepping back from the Soto trade discussions.

Additionally, teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers are also being mentioned as potential suitors for a trade deal involving Soto.

According to Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors, Heyman mentioned that the Cardinals, Padres, Dodgers, and Rangers are among the frontrunners in the blockbuster trade talks. He also hinted that although these are key teams, there might still be other undisclosed clubs in the mix.

With just a few days left until the deadline, the trade talks are bound to intensify and take unexpected turns.
