Kevin Durant and Charles Barkley are once again engaging in a war of words.

After the Golden State Warriors clinched the championship, Barkley, the former NBA star turned well-known basketball commentator, suggested that Durant needs to take on a leadership role on his team to earn respect from the older generation.

Barkley remarked on ESPN’s “Get Up!” last Friday, “Until he leads his team to a championship, we won’t give him the recognition he probably deserves. The expectations remain the same, as Kobe and LeBron have stated.”

Having faced criticism about his legacy in the past, Durant came across Barkley’s comments and swiftly fired back at the basketball legend on Twitter.

Durant expressed his discontent with Barkley’s analogy in a tweet, asserting, “These comments are unpleasant, just another lousy analogy from a resentful former player who can’t acknowledge that we are now earning more than them. It’s all about timing, Chuck, don’t hate the player.”

The Warriors, who had previously secured a championship in 2015, acquired Durant in July 2016, leading to back-to-back titles for Golden State in 2017 and 2018.

Barkley mentioned, “Durant joined a team that had already won a championship, no disrespect intended, it’s simply a fact.”

Subsequently, Durant, who had been named league MVP in 2014 while playing for the Thunder and earned two Finals MVP accolades with the Warriors, opted to depart from the Bay Area and link up with Brooklyn alongside Kyrie Irving. However, their collective efforts have yet to reach fruition.

Despite injuries this season, the 12-time All-Star managed to maintain impressive averages of 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists, propelling himself into the MVP discussion.
