Ana Maria Markovic has been recognized as the ‘most beautiful footballer’ worldwide, a title she has gracefully embraced.
This Croatian athlete has not only captured attention for her skills on the pitch but also for her striking appearance. In a recent interview with German outlet 20min, the 22-year-old striker, who currently plays for Grasshopper in the Swiss Women’s Super League and the Croatian national team, discussed being referred to as a ‘blonde bombshell’.
When asked about being labeled as the ‘sexiest footballer,’ Ana Maria responded, “I appreciate being recognized as one of the most beautiful footballers as it brings me joy to be seen in that light. However, being portrayed as the sexiest player didn’t sit well with me, particularly concerning my family. It’s essential to be mindful of the language used to describe individuals, especially those close to me. Nevertheless, it wasn’t entirely negative.”
Markovic shared her experiences of receiving unwarranted attention from men following the media coverage. She disclosed instances of individuals posing as agents reaching out to represent her.
She expressed, “Subsequently, numerous individuals contacted me under false pretenses of being agents, solely focusing on my external appearance without considering my football prowess. It’s disheartening. I believe such individuals should conduct thorough research beforehand to appreciate my football abilities.
“Many have attempted to exploit my appearance, implying that my physical attributes alone could propel me to fame on social media, solely for their financial gain.”
Furthermore, she addressed the inappropriate actions of men sending unsolicited explicit images to her, stating, “Receiving such images is distasteful and uncalled for.
“I fail to comprehend why individuals engage in such behavior. Nevertheless, I choose to find humor in it alongside my teammates. Occasionally, I receive amusing messages from individuals offering irrelevant services, such as cleaning my football boots post-training.”
