Tragic News: College Basketball Coach Jayda Grant’s Daughter Passes Away at 20 Years Old

The college basketball community is grieving the sudden loss of the daughter of a prominent college basketball coach.

Jayda Grant, the daughter of Anthony Grant, the head basketball coach at the University of Dayton, has sadly passed away at the young age of 20.

The University of Dayton and the athletic department released a joint statement confirming Jayda’s passing:

“The entire University of Dayton community is deeply saddened by the heartbreaking news of Jayda Grant’s passing. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Anthony, Chris, and their family. They have our unwavering love and support during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them for comfort and peace, and we respect their privacy as they navigate through this immense sorrow,” UD President Dr. Eric Spina and Director of Athletics Neil Sullivan expressed in the joint statement.

Jayda, a graduate of Chaminade Julienne High School in 2019, was currently studying at the University of Dayton, as mentioned in an obituary shared by HH Roberts Mortuary.

According to her obituary, Jayda had a love for reading, writing, spending time with her dogs, and socializing with friends. She was passionate about advocating for social justice causes both domestically and internationally, particularly supporting marginalized communities like the LGBTQ+ group. Described as having a kind and caring nature, Jayda held a special place in her heart for those she cherished.

While attending the University of Dayton, Jayda participated in the track team during her first two years at the college in 2020 and 2021. Unfortunately, the 2020 indoor season, as well as the 2020 outdoor and 2021 indoor seasons, were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The cause of Jayda’s untimely death has not been disclosed.

The basketball community and beyond are deeply saddened by the passing of the beloved daughter of a well-known college basketball figure.
