The Phoenix Suns’ game against the Dallas Mavericks became contentious when an incident involving Chris Paul’s family near the Suns’ bench took the spotlight away from the Mavericks’ series-tying win on Sunday. Reports emerged on Monday indicating that a Mavericks fan harassed and made physical contact with several members of Chris Paul’s family.

During Monday’s episode of Inside the NBA, Kenny Smith shared that Paul’s mother, Robin, reached out to explain that a drunken Mavericks fan kept tapping her on the shoulder and wishing her a “Happy Mother’s Day.” Despite her polite requests for him to stop, the fan persisted in tapping her shoulder throughout the game.

The Mavericks responded to the incident with a statement denouncing the behavior:

“It was unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated,” the team stated. “The Mavericks, along with American Airlines Center, swiftly removed the fan from today’s game.”

Subsequently, footage emerged showing a young fan in a white jersey touching Paul’s mother.

The fan who was ejected from the game has since spoken out:

Even though it might not have been this individual, the Mavericks have imposed a ban, which will be lifted in 2023.

Chris Paul’s performance in the game included 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists.
