For fans of scoring, Thursday night in the NHL was a treat. Leading the charge was Auston Matthews, who reached his 50th goal of the season in a dominant 7-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets. This milestone not only places him as the current NHL goal-scoring leader but also marks the first time a Toronto Maple Leafs player has achieved this since the 1993-94 season.

Matthews becomes just the fourth player in the team’s history to accomplish this feat, a significant achievement considering previous seasons were cut short when he was on track to surpass the 50-goal mark. Despite the Jets holding a 2-0 lead in the first period, they squandered it, allowing Matthews to shine with a goal and an assist, while William Nylander and Ilya Mikheyev also made notable contributions for the Leafs.

In a separate game, the Boston Bruins dominated the New Jersey Devils with an 8-1 victory, showcasing their offensive prowess. Boston, riding high with eight wins in their last ten games, saw Brad Marchand score twice and Patrice Bergeron add a goal and two assists, dealing a crushing blow to the visitors. The Bruins unleashed a relentless six-goal spree in the second period, leaving the struggling Devils reeling in defeat.
