The first day of March Madness delivered thrilling basketball action, but it was a cheerleader who stole the spotlight.
During the second half of the East Regional first-round game between (5) Saint Mary’s and (12) Indiana, a stray shot caused the ball to get stuck on the backboard. Despite efforts from officials, the ball remained out of reach. The players hesitated to climb on a chair to retrieve it due to safety concerns. This is when the Indiana cheerleaders stepped in to save the day.
The Indiana cheerleader’s quick thinking received praise, yet Saint Mary’s prevailed with a convincing 82-53 win.
