In the recent 2022 Daytona 500, a new face claimed victory. Austin Cindric, driving for Penske Racing and taking over the #2 car previously driven by Brad Keselowski, managed to stay ahead of the competition in the final laps. He narrowly beat out Bubba Wallace at the finish line to secure his first win in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Cindric held the lead as the race entered a two-lap ‘overtime’ phase and maintained it with the assistance of his teammate, as requested by team owner Roger Penske. On Penske’s 85th birthday, he instructed his team not to cause any accidents among themselves, unlike the previous year, resulting in a successful race this time. Following Cindric and Wallace, Chase Briscoe, Ryan Blaney, and Aric Almirola in Fords rounded out the top-five, marking the beginning of a new era in NASCAR.
