Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy shared his perspective on the crucial play that ended the Cowboys’ season, which involved quarterback Dak Prescott.

In a tense moment when trailing 23-17 with less than a minute remaining, the Cowboys had an opportunity to make a significant yardage play to target the end zone. With only 13 seconds left on the clock, Dak Prescott took off running and slid, leaving just over five seconds on the clock.

The play became chaotic as Prescott handed the ball to his center while the referee intervened to reset the ball, resulting in the clock running out.

McCarthy revealed that the team had two plays prepared – a running play involving Prescott and a passing play. Ultimately, Prescott chose to run the ball, a decision McCarthy supported as the right call.

The aftermath saw various reactions on social media with many questioning the decision-making.

McCarthy emphasized that for the upcoming offseason, the primary focus for the Cowboys is to address their issues with penalties, as they were penalized 14 times during their recent game.

“Our No. 1 focus going forward is the penalties,” McCarthy stated. “There were far too many.”

Following their loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Dak Prescott’s playoff record now stands at 1-3, adding pressure for the team to regroup and strategize for the future.
