**Former Alabama Quarterback Jay Barker Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Hit Wife with Car**
A former University of Alabama football quarterback, Jay Barker, has been arrested on serious felony charges for his alarming behavior.
Reports indicate that Barker, who was a national championship quarterback at Alabama, was taken into custody for allegedly trying to hit his wife with a vehicle. The incident involved Barker reportedly attempting to strike two individuals with his car, with his wife, the singer Sara Evans, being one of them. Despite being married, Barker and Evans are said to be separated.
According to The Tennessean, the event unfolded as the individuals were leaving a party. Barker purportedly reversed his vehicle at a high speed in an attempt to hit them but narrowly missed. The occupants of the vehicle immediately notified the authorities after Barker drove away, leading to police locating him as he passed the residence. Witnesses, including the passengers of the vehicle, informed the police that Barker had intentionally tried to harm them.
Barker was charged with felony assault and was placed under a 12-hour hold for domestic violence following the incident. Notably, he was a part of the 1992 Alabama national championship team and was named the SEC Player of the Year in 1994.
