In a matchup between Cardenales de Lara and Caribes de Anzoategui, tensions flared when Lara pitcher Luis Madero threw at Caribes batter Tomas Telis. As players from both teams converged on the field for a confrontation, the situation quickly escalated when Caribes player Willians Astudillo unexpectedly sucker-punched Madero.
Chaos ensued. Videos captured the sucker punch and the ensuing brawl from different angles. Despite the sucker punch, Madero also endured a kick to the head from Telis while on the ground.
According to Septima Entrada, tensions had been simmering between the two teams since a previous bench-clearing incident where Madero taunted the Caribes bench. This latest event seemed like a form of payback, though the severity of the incident may prompt league officials to take action when determining potential punishments.
