Sometimes complaining about fans taunting you can backfire, as it might escalate the situation even further.
The Houston Astros faced the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium for the first time since their cheating scandal during the 2017 season was revealed. The Yankees emerged victorious with a 7-3 win.
During the game, Yankees fans engaged in lively taunting of the Astros, displaying NSFW chants, signs, and costumes. However, according to a report by Sports Illustrated’s Stephanie Apstein, a Yankees fan was asked to remove his costume after Astros complained to MLB about the excessive taunting. Subsequently, the Yankees made changes after being contacted by Major League Baseball.

Upon arriving in the costume with a sign that read ‘YOU AIN’T STEALING THIS COSTUME TRASHTROS,’ he attracted laughs and cameras. Unfortunately, security also noticed him. ‘Our policy has changed,’ the guard informed him. Taub mentioned the guard saying the Astros had lodged complaints to MLB about fans in other cities, prompting MLB to instruct the Yankees to tighten regulations. Some fans managed to sneak in smaller trash cans than Taub’s. Ryan Donohue had a one-foot plush Oscar the Grouch; he attached an Astros logo and added a mask that said BANG! Chico Heano wore a tiny plastic trash can around his neck, occasionally tapping it with a baseball bat-shaped pencil. Additionally, two individuals in section 203 brought inflatable trash cans, which they inflated in their seats but had them swiftly confiscated.
