Just before the NFL Draft and prior to the Aaron Rodgers news breaking, there was a lot of talk on social media about the possibility of former NFL quarterback and Florida icon Tim Tebow working out with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but this time for a tight end position.

Jaguars GM Trent Baalke acknowledged the workout but downplayed its significance, emphasizing that the front office’s main focus was on the NFL Draft.

Following the draft, head coach Urban Meyer shed light on the potential of the 33-year-old Tebow joining the team.

According to reports by PFT:

“Tim and I have discussed, back when he was a quarterback in the NFL, the idea was floated around. I was preoccupied and didn’t give it much thought. ‘What do you think? What do you think?’ I didn’t have the time to delve into it.

“I know transitioning to a position in the NFL without prior experience is a challenge, this was discussed years ago. How did it come up now? We had a conversation. He worked out with our tight ends coach, I popped in briefly but didn’t stay for the entire session. Then our attention turned to the NFL draft. We plan to review this in the near future. That’s how it all unfolded.”

As many may recall, Meyer coached Tebow during his time at the University of Florida, where Tebow clinched the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and won two national championships in 2006 and 2008.

Meyer expressed his ‘concern’ regarding the Jaguars’ tight end position leading up to the upcoming season. “There’s some quality players, but the number wasn’t there in this year’s draft, and that’s a worry at the moment. That’s a concern right now … We just didn’t address that today.”

Furthermore, Meyer stated, “I have one responsibility, and that is to win games with the Jacksonville Jaguars. If Tim Tebow or Travis Etienne can contribute to our success, then it’s my duty to prepare them to play. However, that decision hasn’t been finalized yet.”

In his NFL quarterback career, Tebow played 35 games, completing 47.9 percent of his passes for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
