Tragedy has struck the soccer world with the news of the passing of the Argentinian soccer legend Diego Maradona this morning as a result of a heart attack.
Maradona had recently been discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery for a blood clot in his brain. According to his lawyer, Diego Maradona passed away at his home.
Maradona is famously known for his “Hand of God” goal against England in the 1986 World Cup.
He concluded his international soccer career with 34 goals in 91 matches, including 17 goals in 46 competitive games. He guided Argentina to victory in the ’86 World Cup and was awarded the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball that year. In 2000, he was honored as the FIFA Player of the Century and his other goal against England in the 1986 quarterfinal was recognized as the “FIFA Goal Of The Century” in 2002.
